The idea
Willenhall Transport Show and Willenhall Lock Stock are combining their efforts to bring a free Christmas Festival in Willenhall Memorial Park. Utilizing the bandstand and sunken gardens transforming the area into a Christmas wonderland , with Christmas trees , lights, seasonal stalls, food and drink, arts and crafts, an outdoor cinema and a unique town wide Christmas Vintage car and truck procession. The afternoon activities will include lantern decorating and entertainment in the band stand. At 5pm a procession will start from the Wakes ground of 13 Vehicles all pimped for Christmas that will include Santa in an open top reindeer car. At 6.30 the procession will arrive at Willenhall Park and stop inside the park providing a back drop to the sunken gardens and bandstand. A short lantern procession around the Gardens then an open air Christmas movie.
We need funding for the cinema hire and for the workshops to produce the lanterns for the procession.
What we'll deliver
- Open air Christmas cinema
- Entertainment in the bandstand
- A town wide Christmas motor procession
- An afternoon lantern workshop for 50 children
- A Christmas themed open air market
Why it's a great idea
Willenhall Town is a neglected Black Country Town and relies upon local voluntary groups to provide
affordable recreational activities. This project will deliver a free Christmas festival for all residence of Willenhall and extend its reach to the perimeter of the town with its Vehicle procession. The day will restore a little bit of Christmas Magic into the town and create a memorable experience for many families who are struggling at this time of the year. In The Spirit Of Christmas we want to create : A NICE CHRISTMAS AFTERNOON AND EVENING IN THE PARK.
Steps to get it done
- September 2024 secure partnership funding
- September 2024 confirm artists and lantern workshop
- November 2024 publish Christmas Show advert on FB
We will encourage people to walk to the Park as we do on all our other events. This will generate on average 5000 steps per person which when multiplied by 500 attendees equates to an extra 2.5m steps locally which can only be a good thing.
