The idea
Braille IT offers free accredited UEB Braille Classes to Blind and Visually impaired people, their carers, parents and anyone (sighted or visually impaired/blind) who is interested in learning Braille. We are very honoured to be awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary services in 2016. We are a community and volunteer project delivering braille tuition to support and encourage independence, positive outlook on life and general wellbeing.
In addition to providing UEB classes our objectives are to break down barriers, reduce isolation, be inclusive and improve access for this vulnerable group to culture and wellbeing activities. Thus contributing to better mental health and physical health.
We have been providing this service for over 16 years and we
are a registered charity.
What we'll deliver
- Theatre Trips with Touch Tour and Audio Described Accessability
- Spa Wellbeing Day
- Audio described Sports Activities
Why it's a great idea
Individuals with impaired vision may have great difficulty in accessing and negotiating art, cultural and sporting activities. The project will widen the opportunities for a vulnerable group of people who have reduced access to Arts, Cultural and Sporting activities.
We believe there is a lack of understanding about blindness and sight loss and we can help to break down these barriers. This will help to change the perceptions about people living with sight loss.
We understand the difficulties that visually impaired people encounter within these environments and can provide ways in which problems may be overcome. This will encourage a social and inclusive experience.
