The idea
We are wanting to launch a White Goods Mini Bank through our CIC Community Shop in Leicester to support families facing poverty.
Many households cannot afford essential appliances like fridges, freezers, ovens, microwaves, kettles, yet new working items are often discarded (for example, ex-display items, items with aesthetic damage, discontinued lines, etc.)
The Mini Bank would collect donated white goods and sell them at very low cost to those in urgent need.
Funds will cover staffing for the project management, potential deliveries, and securing safe storage. This initiative builds on our Community Shop’s work ethic, offering discounted food, sustainable items, and pre-loved clothes, creating much needed support for vulnerable families, to help them survive and work towards a sustainable, safe and healthy family life.
Another positive outcome of this project is reducing white good wastage and helping reduce the carbon footprint.
What we'll deliver
- Low cost essential appliances for families in need, reducing poverty and landfill waste.
Why it's a great idea
The White Goods Mini Bank will have a huge impact on our community. Families in crisis will receive essential household appliances at a very low cost, easing financial pressure and improving their quality of life by having these essentials.
By purchasing white goods at a reduced cost, the project will significantly reduce waste and carbon footprint, promoting environmental sustainability.
Offering families the ability to afford essential and safe items to provide them with a basic standard of living.
Volunteers and donors will be actively engaged, strengthening community bonds and inspiring local collaboration.
Each donor of white goods will receive one share of our community shop, equalling £25, creating a sense of shared ownership of this project.
Overall, this project helps fight poverty and provides tangible, lasting benefits to hundreds of people in need, making a real, measurable difference to our community.
