The idea
We will use a professional builder who will help design, and then build a customised log cabin that will accommodate 2 different age groups. The areas will have a dividing wall to enable the different age groups to have their own space.
The areas will be comfortable and inviting, support individual and group use, contribute to a sense of belonging and facilitate socialising and creation.
Over 200 young people will benefit from having a space they customise, and take part in activities such as drama workshops, art, music, as well as a hangout space for group discussions and socialising.
The young people will be given the opportunity to design their own areas.
Please help us build our Social Shack! Just £2 would go a long way!
What we'll deliver
- Demolish existing cabin
- Build new shack with two areas, and power
- Customise to appropriate age groups, with direct input from children
- Promote social interaction and safe spaces
- Empower young people to take ownership of their space
Why it's a great idea
The idea arose through feedback from our users, as our existing cabin is only suitable for Early Years. Younger children will have a new space with equipment that fits their needs. i.e roleplay, quiet area, books, transport, puzzles. Children will develop their imagination, creative and problem-solving skills, and build confidence.
The older children have expressed the need for a space of their own where they can relax and be themselves.
Their idea is to have bean bags, games, movie & music clubs, fashion & design, and open mic sessions. This will create interest-driven learning.
We have recognised the need for the older children to have a place where they can interact, engage in activities that they initiate, have a sense of belonging, and take ownership. We want these children to feel safe and have positive experiences as they find their place in the world. Transition into high school can make them feel vulnerable and lost, becoming open to exploitation and making poor choices.
