The idea
Northern Racing College is a charitable company providing a range of training for the horse racing industry. We recruit new entrants into horse racing via our Foundation Course, the majority of students being 16 - 18 years, 46% from deprived backgrounds and many having no prior horse experience. Our success rates include 97% of our graduates going into employment, many of whom continue onto further training with us and return to take short courses to build their skills and improve. This project aims to raise funds of £1062 to buy 3 hurdles, that can be moved around the training areas to offer our learners a better quality of learning and skills. The hurdles will add more value to our specialist courses. It will help to build confidence in riders, encourage better jumping positions and help the charity to raise further funds by providing an additional asset for hire.

Why it's a great idea
The College has been training people for 35 years with amazing success stories. Our team strive to provide the highest quality of training and the best learning experience for every learner. For many young people attending the college, horseracing becomes their lifetime career and they will often return to build their skills and experience. This project is a great idea as it will add so much value to our courses, building confidence, ability and rider position, alongside adding to the fun value for both horse and rider. The hurdles are portable, making it easier for our very busy staff to move them around the site and making them accessible to more courses. By increasing our offering of assets for hire, we are able to add to our income generation opportunities, aiming to eventually become sustainable in maintaining facilities in the future.

The hurdles will be used by:
Learners on the Conditional Licence Courses, Category B Permit and some of the Amateur Rider Category A course learners. There is potential to promote to the general public and for use by staff. Our horses will enjoy them too!
