By The Suckley Beer Food & Gift (BFG) Festival
The annual Suckley Beer Food & Gift Festival helps raise money for the Suckley SPACE Charity & needs to fund the purchase of a marquee to protect bands and guests attending the BFG.
The Suckley BFG is dependant on the loan of tents to protect revellers & musicians from rain. In 2018 the weather at the BFG was extremely windy and wet and the large gazebo which had been planned to house the bands was not allowed to be erected on the understandable instruction of its owners. The bands then, also understandably, refused to play outside in the small gazebos we had arranged for them instead, as their expensive equipment would not have been sufficiently protected by rain. We had to move them inside with the result that the music was horrendously loud for the venue and the event was not as successful as it might have been. In 2019 we tried to eliminate this possible problem by borrowing suitable cover, but again what protection we had wasn't really fit for purpose, although we were blessed with good weather that year. In the likely event that the weather will be poor again in the future, we need to ensure we have the right cover to protect bands and guests.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The BFG is a very popular local event in Suckley attended by most of the locals living in and around the surrounding areas of the Parish. A huge amount of work goes into organising the BFG, the success of which is hugely weather dependant. We want to ensure that the hard work isn't wasted, the beer all gets drunk, the stall holders feel its worthwhile attending and ultimately that the SPACE Charity continues to be supported. However, even more than this, we want those supporting us by attending the BFG to have fun and for them and the bands to know that, even in poor weather, that we have thought of their comfort and protection. This is a local family fun event which we want to improve upon year by year. By purchasing most of our own equipment, not only will we protect the guests and bands, but also save on the rental of inadequate tentage in the future, thereby ensuring that even more money goes to SPACE in the future. Let's make the BFG an all weather event and have some fun!
Steps to get it done:
SPACE is an initiative to bring new life to the Suckley community by providing 21st Century facilities within the large well situated church building, offering this scattered rural village a much needed active hub, useful to all, including our adjacent primary school. This entails transforming the interior of Suckley Church in rural Worcestershire to create a flexible venue with modern facilities to enable it to be used by all members of the village for a wide variety of activities. The BFG has raised thousands of pounds for SPACE over the last 4 years and due to COVID-19 will lose out a lot in 2020. We're hoping the 2021 BFG will prove to be a huge success, celebrating us all being together again, whatever the weather, and raising money for this great cause which benefits all locals and not just those who attend church.
