The idea

We are seeking funding to purchase/install a new trim trail for the KS2 playground at St. Clare’s Catholic Primary School. At present, there is no safe or suitable outdoor play equipment for our older pupils (ages 7–11). Installing a trim trail will provide stimulating, active, and inclusive play opportunities that promote physical fitness, coordination, confidence, and teamwork. It will also encourage healthier lifestyles and improve wellbeing through daily physical activity.

The primary beneficiaries will be our current and future pupils, but the trim trail will also support the wider community. Our school grounds regularly host community initiatives, including the Storyhouse Open-Air Cinema and HAF Holiday Camps, which welcome everyone. Our site is shared with St. Clare’s Preschool and its afterschool club, which offer essential early years education and wraparound care for local families. We also open our grounds for fun events throughout the year, such as our annual summer fair.

What we'll deliver

  • Purchase and installation of a new trim trail

Why it's a great idea

Our trim trail will offer wide‑ranging benefits for our school and community by encouraging regular physical activity—vital for both physical health & mental wellbeing. Using a trim trail helps children develop gross motor skills such as balance, coordination, and strength, while also improving cardiovascular fitness. Just as importantly, these activities promote social interaction and teamwork, as pupils collaborate to navigate obstacles, build confidence, and develop communication skills.

St Clare’s is located in one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in Chester, meaning many pupils have limited access to outdoor play equipment at home. The installation of a trim trail would provide equal opportunities for active, enjoyable play. In addition, a significant number of our pupils have special educational needs and disabilities; for them, the trim trail would provide an inclusive, safe environment to develop motor and social skills while offering a positive outlet for their energy.

Steps to get it done

  • Order the trim trail
  • Arrange trim trail installation
  • Trim trail is installed
  • Trim trail is opened for play!
