New Flooring-Southwater Scout & Guide HQ

The HQ is used every week by approx 200 children attending Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Rangers, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. The next element of the building's refurbishment is new flooring.

The idea

A major refurbishment of the building was started in 2017 following the signing of a new long term lease. To date sufficient funds have been raised to complete the following:
1. Reconfiguration and renewal of all the toilets, now allowing for disabled use.
2. Installation of an electric boiler and central heating system.
3. Installation of an upgraded fire alarm system.
4. Installation of a new door entry system.
5. Replacement and upgrade of all external windows.
6. Installation of cavity wall insulation.
The next step is to raise money for new flooring in all areas (except the toilets as this has already been completed). We believe the existing floor was laid when the property was built in 1977 and so is very much in need of renewal.

What we'll deliver

  • New flooring for the entrance, main hall, kitchen and leaders' room

Why it's a great idea

The refurbishment of the HQ is long overdue and essential for the continuation of Scouting and Guiding in the rapidly growing village of Southwater. The wider local community will also benefit as the building is available to hire for private events as well as by small local businesses offering activities which promote health and wellbeing which has included children's music classes, yoga, etc. The refurbishments will broaden the appeal of the HQ and thereby increase the use by the community. As a consequence, the additional income generated will in turn support its ongoing upkeep.

Steps to get it done

  • Once funding has been received the floor will be prepared and laid within 3 days.
