The idea
We have the opportunity to base our 'Soul in a Bowl' sessions at The Mount, Campbell Hall in Chester which is preferred to the current arrangement of using various sites.
We need to install a new kitchen to make the sessions possible. The sessions help develop self-esteem and self-confidence, as well as cookery, numeracy and teamworking skills.
Team members are encouraged to develop reliability and take level 2 food hygiene for catering exams.
Having a permanent base will enable us to to develop Soul in a Bowl stage two – a social enterprise where we can pay our employees a living wage whilst giving them the opportunity, experience, and development to look towards full time employment.
The social enterprise is looking to bake and sell snack packs of shortbread biscuits through local independent retailers and cafes in the Chester area.
What we'll deliver
- Install a new kitchen for 'Soul in a Bowl' sessions
- offer cookery sessions to those who are or have been homeless
- empower those people on a route out of homelessness and into employment.
Why it's a great idea
Our beneficiaries are those that we will be employing. Those who are or who have been homeless - helping to get them back onto their feet and into employment. These will be graduates of our Stage One Soul in a Bowl sessions - 'Cook & Eat'. We believe they are now ready to engage with Stage Two – our 'Second Bite' social enterprise. By supporting those in Stage Two, we will also be able to continue and develop more people through Stage One.
Steps to get it done
- install new catering kitchen
