The idea
We want to make physical activity accessible for as many people as possible. Sit Strong is a Chair Based exercise programme delivered over 12 weeks, with the ability to continue post 12 weeks. From week 1 to week 12, the sessions are designed to be progressive and engaging so participants really reap the rewards of commitment to a exercise programme.
The programme will be delivered by a qualified chair based exercise instructor and sessions are structured to see improvements in participants posture, mobility and strength.
We will deliver three sessions per week across Walsall by offering the sessions in Bloxwich, Bentley and Rushall of which two will be daytime sessions and one evening session to attract as many people as possible.
The initial 12 week programme will be free and target people who wish to become more active.
What we'll deliver
- Three new exercise sessions in Walsall
- Show participants a different way to exercise
- Improve physical health
- Improve mental health
- Improve social wellbeing
Why it's a great idea
Physical activity reduces risk of major illnesses by up to 30%. Chair based exercise is a growing form of exercise and is beneficial to anyone. Sit Strong can improve heart health, balance, muscle strength and coordination through a low impact structure, making it a safe way to exercise for anyone.
Sit strong’s main focus is to develop mobility, a key component that is often overlooked. When joints aren’t very mobile, movement becomes difficult and we experience pain and discomfort. By developing this, movement becomes more free, circulation improves and the development of chronic pain conditions can be prevented.
Participants who attend become part of our community. Whether they just want to get out the house, try a new exercise class or meet new people; it’s one space where everyone can be supported in making positive changes.
We aim to improve physical, mental and social fitness. Physical activity can reduce risk of depression by 30% and help people connect to the local community
