The idea

We’re proposing a weekly, welcoming sewing club for older people in Hammersmith and Fulham. This project is about community, creativity through sewing, and sustainability — a chance for elderly participants to combat loneliness while learning and sharing sewing skills in a relaxed environment over a cup of tea or coffee.
This is a sustainable project that uses mostly recycled or donated materials, and is open to all sewing levels — from total beginners to experienced menders.

Duration
We propose to deliver one session a week, each lasting three hours.
We are available to run these sessions from the beginning of November 2025 to mid-March 2026.

Participants
Numbers
We propose a maximum enrollment of 8 people per session to ensure an effective learning environment.

Age
These sessions will be open to people of retired age, as well as unpaid carers — often family members who are out of the workforce and at risk of isolation themselves.

What we'll deliver

  • 17 sewing clubs
  • 17 mid-morning refreshments (tea, coffee, and biscuits)

Why it's a great idea

By the end of the project, participants will have:
Experienced reduced feelings of isolation through regular social interaction
Engaged with sewing as a way to express creativity and build confidence.
Gained awareness of sustainability by using recycled materials and learning repair skills.
