The idea
The Silver Lining was created in order to create a support network and community of graduate artists which operates at Redbridge Drama Centre. By forming affiliations with up and coming talent we are aiming to put Redbridge Drama Centre and the Kenneth More Theatre on the map as places where creative innovation is born. These affiliate artists will then in the future be able to return back to these venues to encourage youth engagement with the arts through facilitating specialist workshops.
As a company we are also starting to gain a social media following and we will be promoting events at both venues to a much wider audience by utilising this platform. We currently have had engagement from over 17 different artistic institutions (for example: Guildhall, LAMDA, Mountview.)
One of our main goals is to bring more shows to these venues. We want to boost ticket sales and encourage new audiences to attend by offering consistently new content.
What we'll deliver
- Engaging monthly workshops with industry professionals.
- Professional productions platforming new and exciting talent and engaging new audiences.
- Scratch nights encouraging networking and community amongst local creatives.
- Host 5 days of Research and Development sessions across the year.
Why it's a great idea
We are already seeing the sense of community this company is building through a current event we are hosting. We have connected up graduate actors, writers and directors from 17 different institutions and curated an evening of 8 pieces of new writing with 3 musical interludes. There is definitely an audience for this type of work as we received over 150 applications for 34 roles within the online event. Most applicants have responded to us letting us know they are so glad that something like this exists and they shall be sure to attend.
The graduate audience we have already acquired is something we are keen to bring to the Kenneth More Theatre once Covid restrictions allow. In order to achieve this we will be filming promotional material for this online scratch night in venue to make that connection clear and attract a younger demographic to the theatre's future events.
