The idea

Shaes London, rooted in Hackney Wick, is a space for creativity, culture, and collective care. It is a place where artists, organisers, and communities come together—hosting workshops, performances, and wellness sessions designed to inspire, connect, and sustain. To keep Shaes affordable and accessible, we are fundraising to install industrial laundry facilities, build a professional recording studio, and subsidise venue costs—ensuring Shaes remains a thriving, community-led space for creativity, collaboration, and care.

Steps to get it done

Allocate £21K to subsidise venue hire costs for grassroots organisers.

Shaes London is a creative and cultural home in Hackney Wick, providing an affordable, inclusive space for grassroots organisers, artists, and facilitators. To keep Shaes accessible and sustainable, we are fundraising to subsidise rent costs, install essential community resources, and secure long-term funding to keep this vital space open and thriving.

We host workshops, performances, bodywork sessions & Classes, ensuring our space remains affordable and community-driven. Our ethos is rooted in collaboration, shared resources, and radical inclusivity, creating a space where all can gather, express, and create freely.

Why Are We Fundraising?

Subsidised Community Access – Keeping costs low so organisers and creatives can run affordable events, classes, and workshops.

Total Rent for the Year: £42,000
£21,000 → Crowdfunding Goal (Rent Subsidies) (Covering half the rent for 7 months, keeping Shaes accessible.)
£18,000 → Covered by Studio Rentals (We generate £1,500/month from our four rented studio spaces.)
£3000 → Covered by Low-Cost Events & Space Hire (The remaining small gap will be filled through accessible, community-led events.)

By securing £21K through this campaign, we guarantee:
Affordable event space for grassroots organisers & facilitators.
A stable, creative home for the community.
A long-term, sustainable model where Shaes remains self-sufficient.

Expanding Our Community Resources

Alongside keeping Shae's running, we are also investing in essential community resources to increase accessibility and well-being:

A Community Laundry (Industrial Washing Machine & Dryer) – A free/low-cost facility to support those without regular access to clean clothes.

Enhancing Our Space for Bodywork & Sensory Engagement – Supporting movement-based practices like somatic healing, dance, and creative bodywork to enrich well-being. Funding a bespoke steel framed bodywork table for stretch massage therapy, plus refurbishing the space to improve accessibility and comfort.
