Cydweithio i wella Cymunedau Abertawe / Working together to enhance Swansea Communities
We are a group of volunteers working with Council staff to improve facilities in the park. Our survey has identified a need for accessible seating to help everyone spend time in the park. At present many benches are not on a level surface and are set away from the path. Now more than ever, our parks have an important function in allowing us to meet people outdoors and facilitating exercise. We would like to fit seating made by SLPW, (Second Life Products Wales) a local firm. They make attractive, well-designed products from recycled plastic, which are resilient and usable throughout the year. Council staff will install the benches along pathways, in places accessible to all park users. The picnic benches are a 'walkthrough' design (no need to climb over struts) and will be extended for a wheelchair user at either end. Benches will have extended concrete bases accommodating pushchairs and mobility aids.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The benefits of time spent in the outdoor environment: This project will encourage park use, allowing friends and family to enjoy the outdoors together during the coronavirus crisis. Better facilities will increase accessibility for all, reducing social isolation. Spending time outdoors is good for our well being and mental health; we all feel better after a spending time in a park. Help us support local people and visitors to the area who may need some help to access outdoor spaces. Their carers deserve our help too. There are benefits to the local economy: A well used park is good for the local community and supports businesses and tourism in the area, encouraging trade in the shops and cafes.
