The idea
We want to commission a proper engineering study, by professionals, to convert the concept outlined in the CWaC Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan to a fully designed/costed design such that the project is advanced to a stage whereby further funding opportunities can be pursued.
To do this we need an exact route alignment plan and a cost estimate for the construction costs so that the council can make funding applications when appropriate sums and designation are released.
Often these opportunities arise at relatively short notice, hence having a "shovel ready" plan is an essential step in getting better facilities for our community. Can you help?
What we'll deliver
- Position the council to pitch for the various funds that become available for "green" infrastructure
- First step to enable 1300 children to safely cycle or walk to school
- First step to enable families to safely exercise together
- Route design/costing study
Why it's a great idea
An active lifestyle primarily delivers health benefits, both physical and mental, reducing pressure on NHS resources. Replacing car journeys with cycling/walking reduces congestion on the roads, leading to improved air quality and helping to reduce carbon emissions.
Steps to get it done
- Completion by April 2022
The alignment indicated in the LCWIP is highly flawed. It commences only at Tesco, crosses the railway line onto private land and emerges onto Chester RD via a private track. None of the landowners are consulted and the key one we communicated with has made it clear that they would not sanction that route.
