The idea
This project introduces the Daily Mile and creates a safe, engaging pathway linking The Oaks Community Primary School to the Oaks Oasis, our forest school area. It will support pupils’ physical and mental wellbeing through daily activity, outdoor learning, and nature connection. The route will be surfaced, inclusive, and feature sensory planting, creative signage, and pupil-led artwork. It will provide a calm transition between indoor and outdoor environments, benefiting behaviour, focus, and emotional regulation. The Oaks Oasis will host forest school sessions, nurture groups, and cross-curricular learning. Pupils will help design and maintain the space, fostering ownership, teamwork, and pride. The project also supports environmental education, biodiversity, and sustainability through pollinator-friendly planting and eco-materials. Families and community partners will be involved, strengthening links and enhancing cultural value.
What we'll deliver
- safe, surfaced pathway
- pollinator-friendly and sensory plants along the route
- creative and sensory features (e.g. wooden sculptures, art boards, inspirational signs)
Why it's a great idea
This project will improve physical health through daily activity and boost mental wellbeing by providing access to calming, natural spaces. It will support emotional regulation, behaviour, and focus—especially for vulnerable pupils—through regular outdoor movement and nature connection. The pathway and forest school area will enrich learning across the curriculum and promote teamwork, creativity, and responsibility. Designed to be inclusive, it ensures all children can take part. It supports sustainability, biodiversity, and community engagement, leaving a lasting legacy.
