Feline Friends London (FFL) was founded in July 2013 by a group of experienced cat rescuers and veterinary professionals to help cats across London. Originally founded in Hackney, the scope of the charity now encompasses all of London and we have volunteers and fosterers in most boroughs, including those where the stray and feral populations are highest. FFL has a non-euthasia policy helping any cats have a second chance. We do this by rescuing, vet treating, fostering & socialising cats & kittens, regardless of health conditions and behavioural problems.
The benefits of cat ownership are many and varied; encouraging caring attitudes in young people, providing companionship to alleviate loneliness, and have been scientifically proven to improve mental health. We work together with local authorities, social services, the NHS, the police, the RSPCA, vet practices & other animal charities to promote neutering & good cat welfare.
We are all volunteers and rely entirely on donations to vet check, provide treatment, neutering and foster care for the cats and kittens in our care until we find them a permanent home. Every penny donated to us goes on the care of our foster cats and cats who need our help.
We are partnered with an established rescuer in Redbridge, called Sue. She has been involved in cat rescue across East London for over 30 years and has a small group of helpers and fosterers across the borough, all giving their time and money voluntarily.
Redbridge, in particular Ilford, has had a long history of problems with abandoned, abused and feral cats, many of which require intensive veterinary treatment and rehabilitation. Major vet bills are occasionally supported through Crowdfunding but the majority of finance comes from the volunteers themselves. Covid-19 and the cost of living crisis have done little to halt the dire situation of stray cats across the country and has added further pressure to all those involved in animal rescue.
