Portobello Pantomime 2019

The Portobello Panto 2019, A Christmas Carol will be as big, bold, bright and bountiful as the many years before, since its origin in 1991. Its charitable and artistic success depends on donations.

The idea

The production will once more be made possible through the hard work and dedication of dozens of volunteers, each as important as the last. From costume to lighting to acting to singing, everybody works for free to make the Panto possible – all for the joy of the performance and to raise money for our community.

Last year, Snow White and the Seven Runaways raised a record breaking £11,697 for our three local charities and causes. Through ticket sales and donations, we raised £8,697 for Shepherds Bush Families Project, £1,500 for GLUE Tabernacle W11 and £1,500 for All Stars Boxing Gym. (Which survived and still thrives in the area!)

This year our third local charity will be The Henry Dickens community centre, which is a small community centre that focuses primarily in providing support for Grenfell Tower survivors and people in the area affected by the tragedy, be it art therapy or community bingo.

This year promises to be bigger and better than ever. Oh yes it does!

Why it's a great idea

The Pantomime has been the heart of Christmas for everyone in the local area. It connects and inspires people from all walks of life. It has also started many careers of people who wouldn't originally get into the arts. To this day it is a production that brings all parts of the community together to sing, laugh and dance at Christmas. Nearly all of the kids in the show go to school within a one-mile radius of the Tabernacle. For us, it remains an everlasting connection to this wonderful part of west London.

There is a very strong environmental protection message running throughout the show, to encourage and inspire those in it and watching to save our planet!

The Tabernacle W11 is an institution with a similar raison d’être to the Panto. It was founded to safeguard and celebrate Notting Hill’s vibrancy and to have fun while doing it. Ours is a special corner of this city and we like to think the Panto is a part of that.
