By Green Uniform & Baby Bank Limited
Community Pop Up Events to tackle the inequality families in Mid Cheshire face trying to purchase baby equipment, school uniform, prom clothing, toys and more due to financial and social restraints.
We hold various pop up projects throughout the year aimed at allowing access to good quality pre loved items that are donated to us. This allows families to alleviate the financial burden associated with baby equipment, consumables, school uniforms and additional costs such as Proms, World Book Day, and Christmas. Allowing access to recycled items also promotes reuse and sustainability and reduces the purchase of new items. We are a not for profit Community initiative and we currently fund these events ourselves, however the need is growing and we are accessed by more families each month, as well as now being accessed directly by Health & Social Services, Community Groups and other Organizations we require some additional funding for the running costs associated with these events to allow us to continue to help as many families as possible. We are run solely by volunteers and with the donations and good will of the local community. We are accessed by hundreds of families a month.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The benefits that we see from holding these events are : * Families benefit from reduced stress and anxiety due to the financial burden that is placed upon them to purchase these items new. * Babies and Children havw access to equipment and clothing that they need in order to thrive. School children attend school alongside their peers in the correct uniform, with the right equipment allowing them to feel equal to everybody else. * Reduction in the amount of unnecessary 'new' purchases of equipment and clothing when good quality recycled items are saved from landfill and reused, promoting the sustainability of items and helping towards our aim of a circular economy. * Tackles the inequality families in Mid Cheshire experience being in a deprivation area, allowing access to services that improve their mental wellbeing, encourage communication and interaction with other community groups that we work alongside and reduces the financial strain. * Promotes Community helping Community.
Steps to get it done:
We currently run our 'shop' twice a week, we are open to everybody. We 'charge' small donation prices from 50p for uniform to people who can afford the donation price. We always give items to families who cannot afford free of charge. We work alongside Schools, Health Professionals and other Community Groups. We are currently accessed by families that foster for emergency placement equipment. We are not for profit and we use ALL funds to cover our rental/running costs, to purchase consumables such as nappies, baby milk etc. and to fund and run the Pop Up events that are a huge help to the local community, We help around a hundred families a month, not including the extra at pop up events, Our website detailing previous Pop Up Events is www.greenuniformandbabybankltd.org. We offer voluntary opportunities which allow people to come and help out while socializing and gaining money handling and customer service skills.

Christmas Wishes donated to St Chads Primary Winsford for pupils requested by staff after our email in November. We work alongside St Chads alot, supporting them with donations of books and uniform as well as helping them at the end of the last school year when they held their very first School Uniform Exchange to help their school community recycle and reuse items while saving money. We look forward to continuing to work alongside them in the future.
Christmas Wishes donated to St Josephs Primary School Winsford for pupils and their siblings. Requested directly by staff after receiving our email in November. St Joseph's already work alongside us with a donation box in their school reception for us to collect. We look forward to this relationship developing.
Before Christmas we managed to hand out 217 Christmas Wishes that we had received from local families, either requesting directly from us or via their schools. We covered children from newborn to 16 and also some older people who were alone at Christmas and not expecting a gift that were put forward by Very Green Grocery Winsford and our own volunteers. We made the collection day a festive event with music and additional help for families in the form of free chocolates and books for all recipient's, meaning everybody left with more than they requested. The money that we took during our pop Up Christmas Event and taken at our 'shop' this year allowed us to purchase these wishes, alongside generous donations from Arnold Clark Community Fund, DC Lomas and Amazon Wishlist purchases made and sent to us directly via members of the local community. We have had some wonderful feedback from school support workers and also from families directly that we will share shortly showing the impact that this small gesture of help has had on their mental wellbeing and families as a whole. By pledging towards our target you allow us to hold these events next year, making them bigger and better so we can increase our reach and help more families in need, working alongside local organisations, schools and community groups to try and ensure no families are missed.
https://www.radionorthwich.co.uk/replayer/kim-smith/ Last week Vanessa appeared on Kim's breakfast show to chat about GUBB, what we do and why we are running Christmas Wishes this year. Vanessa's interview is on from 11am which is one hour into the show if you want to go forward on the link and listen. Hopefully this will explain a little more about what we do and why we do it.
We held our Christmas Toy & Gift Community Event on Saturday, we had hundreds of people attend and Santa and his elves saw over 100 children for free and gifted each one a selection pack and Christmas Book to share at home. They also collected and extra 25 Christmas Wishes from local families needing help this year with a gift for their child(ren). We had huge amounts of pre loved toys, books, games and puzzles as well as lots of new items for people to be able to purchase and sort out their Christmas shopping. We were joined by community crafter's and sellers, there were silly Christmas head bands, Christmas jumpers, lots of music and treats and smiles. Huge thank you to all of our supporters, the community who attended and of course to our wonderful volunteers who give up their time to do this. 📸 Watch this video on Facebook https://fb.watch/ozryiPRVUm/
