This project was funded on 11 May 2020!

Following on from the previous years success we will stage 3, outdoor, promenade productions suitable for all the family, in 3 different parks across the city. The funds raised will contribute to the cost of costumes, props and help provide a wage for the actors and crew involved. These funds will be added to donations collected at the shows (in place of ticket cost -allowing greater access). These exciting and engaging plays will not only provide work for local creatives, but work placements for Uni Students and work experience placements for school students. The events also offer volunteer placements for a range of community organisation and individuals.

What we'll deliver:

  • 1 show performed 4 times in Roker Park
  • 1 show performed 4 times in Mowbray Park
  • 1 show performed 4 times in Barnes Park

Why it's a great idea:

This project allows everyone in the city of Sunderland to access brilliant theatre for free (or what they choose to donate) The walk about nature of the pieces mean that they are suitable for all, from young families who can talk through the stories as they go, to groups of friends and couples, to those with additional needs who may find the traditional theatre environment restrictive it reclaims the parks for the audiences, making the spaces safe and magical, helping people build new memories together in these community spaces which can often feel 'owned' by other park users it provides numerous work placements for local students of all ages allowing them to access creative industry placements in their own city. It will help support Sunderland's only full time producing theatre company, Theatre Space NE CIC - whose wider work supports creativity in education and education settings

Steps to get it done:

  • Selecting plays
  • casting actors
  • rehearsing the plays
  • staging the plays
