Through processes of data collection such as surveys and interviews and first-hand conversation with the Goldsmiths Nursery staff and its users, playgrounding will result in two commissions within their garden. Following the redundancy of the gardener, its features need renovating and the space is becoming overgrown and less accessible. As suggested by the children, the garden will feature a den/hideout structure produced by Rebecca Sainsot and a mural by Lyndon Harrison. The commissions are designed as a result of two art-play sessions with the pre-school children (aged 3-4 years).
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
The space will provide a pedagogical environment that centralises play and encourages intergenerational exchange between the Goldsmiths staff and students, users and staff at the Nursery and members of the New Cross community. Goldsmiths Nursery is one of the only facilities that connects the college with its local community - over half of its users are not part of the college. Therefore, the project will provide a unique and much needed environment for children, staff and students to come together. The site will be home to multiple events designed for both adults and children, including story telling by members of the community in the new den, communal planting sessions and picnics.
