The idea
Bringing together the 2 communities of Pontlliw & Tircoed with a shared picnic experience. A coming together of old friends, creation of new friends and a wonderous fun day for all. Villagers will bring their own picnic, but to make the day one to remember, the Community Council with Pontlliw Friends of the Park, the Football Club, Pontlliw Primary School, Tircoed Trust and other interested parties are organising many types of entertainment for the event.
These include a stage with a headline act of The Valli Boys, craft stalls for local crafters, candy floss, ice cream, sweets etc., a bouncy castle, a dog show organised by the RSPCA Llys Nini Animal Centre, children’s craft & sports activities and other forms of entertainment. We would like to raise funds for the cost of the stage and a small pavilion.
What we'll deliver
- Hire a stage
- A Marquee for the event
Why it's a great idea
Building of community spirit. This has already been shown by the willingness of groups to get involved. As the organisation of the event develops it is anticipated this will increase and deepen with connections being made and further opportunities identified. The intention is that this event will act as a springboard for increased community involvement.
Recovery from Covid by providing a fun and entertaining day to enable people to re-connect. It will be an open air event with associated health benefits. Events will include physical activities such as football, basketball, planting, tug of war and a bucking sheep!
Showcase for local groups to demonstrate what they do and seek new members/participants. There will be an opportunity for local artisans and crafters to display and sell their products. Local businesses will be invited to take part.
