The idea
Here at the Beacon Project SR5 we get really excited by being outside, chatting with people and eating good food, we'd like to do more of it and ensure other people get to enjoy the same.
We are passionate about enabling people to grow in skills, faith and confidence. In an area where aspirations are low we feel called to be out there amongst the people, building relationships, signposting to additional available services where necessary, listening to people's stories and coming alongside to support them in whatever way we can.
To do this we will buy a mobile pizza oven that can be taken out and about, providing a temporary outdoor gathering space that offers good value, healthy food and quality conversation. It will also enable us to provide volunteering and employment opportunities, and work in partnership with other agencies.
What we'll deliver
- Building up the community
- Training and upskilling local volunteers
- Healthier eating awareness
- Prayerful support and care
- Pizza
Why it's a great idea
We aim to put the community at the forefront of our project. Social isolation and mental health challenges have greatly increased during the last year for many, and we'd like to change that.
Food can bring joy to many people. Teaching folk to cook, educating people about making healthier choices and passing on skills of planning and budgeting - Pizza Piety is the full package!
Pizza Piety will be led by members of the Beacon Project SR5, based in the Parish of North Wearside, Sunderland. We will raise aspirations by providing employment and educational opportunities, working in partnership with local organisations to train up volunteers to cook, to serve and to befriend members of the community. After the initial outlay, we plan that the project will cover its own costs and be self sustaining.
