The idea

We will use our telephone helpline to respond to requests from anyone who has no alternative support networks, and our volunteers will collect shopping or prescriptions or any other essential items for those who are isolating or shielding; we will provide transport to medical appointments or deliver critical medical treatments for those unable to travel. For those who are anxious or lonely we have set up a team of volunteers to make regular welfare phone calls to keep in touch.

What we'll deliver

  • Co-ordinate and deliver social and welfare phone calls
  • Collect and deliver prescriptions and other essential items
  • Provide transport to medical appointments

Why it's a great idea

The project will provide essential services for those without alternative means, and will reduce anxiety for those most affected by the consequences of the virus. The project will also enable local residents temporarily unemployed as well as regular volunteers to contribute to a co-ordinated and effective community response to the emergency. The social/welfare phone contact will provide the groundwork for a longer term keeping in touch service.

Steps to get it done

  • Print and distribute leaflets and posters
  • Co-ordinate and make social or welfare phone calls.
  • Collect prescriptions and other essential items
  • Provide transport to medical appointments
