A local event celebrating creative computing and digital art in Peckham, with a programme of interactive artworks, artist workshops, talks and events. This event will be held over a long weekend (Thursday to Sunday). Since creative computing is an umbrella term, we decided to assign each day with a theme: physical computing, generative art, 'bring your own laptop' and internet and AI ethics. We aim to follow a ‘hands dirty’ approach which involves several workshops for beginners who have an interest in the subject but have found it hard to access it. Each workshop will allow the audience to take new knowledge back home to develop and explore further. In addition, we will provide a platform for emerging artists and a space for digital art communities to meet in person, getting people together again after Covid-19. It is a community led project run in collaboration with the Creative Computing Institute in Camberwell, Peckham Levels and a range of Peckham artists.

What we'll deliver:

  • Deliver 8 public workshops for the local community
  • Deliver 4 live evening events for the local community
  • An exhibition of 7 emerging artists' work
  • An interactive street-based artwork
  • A networking event with industry professionals for the local community

Why it's a great idea:

This project will benefit local students, technologists and creatives, local artists, and the local community How? --> Students, technologist and creatives/local artists get to network with industry professional Everyone--> can pick up new skills Why does your area need this? Upskilling digital literacy and expanding access to art and technology. Bringing art to people (e.g. street based installations). Are you solving a particular challenge Opportunity for people to meet up in real life to celebrate and learn, after being stuck at home through Covid. Bring art to a wider local audience, including people with a curiosity towards digital arts but who haven't found the right way to approach it. Does any research back you up Peckham as a hub with CCI.

Steps to get it done:

  • Have a diverse range of workshop leaders booked in
  • Develop workshops for the local community
  • Engage with local artists
