The idea
The Stroud Funding project will enable the Rose & Crown Inn to reopen as a community-owned pub and hub. Funds raised through the project will be used to completely rewire the ground floor of the pub, ensuring safety and functionality for the future. Scheduled for completion by mid-2026, the electrical works are an integral part of the pub's reopening plan in June 2026.
Supported by over 400 investors (or members) of Nympsfield Community Pub Limited (NCPL), a Community Benefit Society, this effort builds on our collective achievement of raising over £400,000 in community shares, members' loans, grants, donations and fundraising events to purchase the pub which has been closed since March 2023. Together, the community aims to breathe new life into the Rose & Crown Inn, cementing its role at the heart of the village once again.
What we'll deliver
- Removal of existing ground floor wiring
- Installation and commissioning of new ground floor consumer unit, wiring and accessories
- Installation / recommissioning of safety and security systems
Why it's a great idea
Our project will benefit people living in Nympsfield and the surrounding Stroud District, including nearby villages and communities across the Cotswolds. Nympsfield is a relatively isolated village with limited public transport links. By reopening the Rose & Crown Inn as a community-owned pub and hub, we will support a diverse mix of people – local residents of all ages, families, older people at risk of rural isolation, and younger people seeking local employment and social opportunities.
It will also benefit visitors, walkers, and cyclists who contribute to the local economy. We will provide a welcoming, inclusive space for social connection, events, and support networks, ensuring that everyone - whether long-term residents or newcomers - has a place to gather, belong and thrive.
