The idea
Simply.... to collect and deliver fresh food to feed the vulnerable people of our community in these unprecedented times of COVID-19.
UKHarvest is a not for profit food rescue organisation, delivering surplus perishable food to charitable organisations around the UK.
WE HAVE DELIVERED OVER 50% OF OUR NORMAL ANNUAL SUPPORT IN THE LAST 3 WEEKS.
The demand on UKHarvest has grown immensely during the COVID-19 emergency. As we continue to try to deliver food to our charity partners we are receiving new requests for help, from vulnerable people.
UKHarvest is currently working overtime to respond to the rapidly changing situation around COVID-19 and ensure that the most vulnerable have access to the food they need.
What we'll deliver
- A nutritious and delicious food delivered to individuals in need
- Reduction in food wastage and food going to landfill
- Improved health and wellbeing
- Supporting people to feel connected whilst in social isolation
- Volunteering opportunities
- Supporting the local community
Why it's a great idea
Providing vulnerable people with a delicious fresh food. With this project, we aim to:
• help to reduce malnutrition and hunger
• reduce feelings of loneliness in times of social isolation
• give access to information on how to reduce food waste and cook nutritious meals at home
• help the environment by ensuring that good food is being eaten rather than going to landfill, minimising food waste and saving our environment by preventing tonnes of carbon emissions from polluting the atmosphere.
Steps to get it done
- Get out on the road and collect more food from more donors
- Deliver to vulnerable individuals
