NCH Outdoor Environment Improvement

We wish to update our outdoor environment, to benefit all members of the local community who access our provision.

The idea

Our goal is to boost their feeling of wellbeing and build up community spirit again as the covid restrictions are lifting. We also strive to partner with other organisations to bring services into the Hub for the community to access. We aim to strengthen the connection between the community and the natural environment, whilst supporting the creation, enhancement and maintenance of local green spaces and urban areas.

What we'll deliver

  • Adding a sail canopy would mean that part of our outdoor space has an all weather accessible area.
  • An outdoor blackboard would be a welcome addition for our toddler group.
  • Creating a small urban garden, with some raised beds for planting and growing.
  • Planting Lavender and a butterfly bush to help them to thrive in their habitat.

Why it's a great idea

In making these additions to our outdoor provision we will be helping forge connections between the community and nature for existing and future generations. We believe a community urban green space where both children and adults can get ‘hands on’ is needed in Tickhill, as there currently isn’t a shared gardening space. Planting and growing will enrich the habitat of the local wildlife. It will also benefit young children in many ways, helping them to connect with and understand the natural world around them and getting out in the fresh air, boosting their immunity.

Steps to get it done

  • Installing the Sail Canopy
  • Setting up the outdoor literacy provision
  • Building the planters for the urban garden
