The Bulfin Estate Residents Association (BERA) is a not-for-profit organisation made up of a dedicated and diverse voluntary group of individuals from the Bulfin Estate in Inchicore, Dublin 8. BERA acts as the management for the hall that was established for the social, cultural and environmental improvement of Bulfin Estate. BERA is responsible for making decisions for the ongoing viability of the property for the benefit of the community and have the best interests of the hall and how it can best serve the local community at its operating core. BERA ensures that the property is maintained to an appropriate standard, is run smoothly, and, importantly, is made available for the Bulfin Estate community as a vital, valuable community hub and amenity space for local residents to gather, organise and attend events for social and community purposes. BERA organises bookings for the hall covering a wide range of groups providing activities and cultural classes for all age groups e.g. Ladies Club, a parent and child play group, art, yoga, drama, music, workshops, and dance classes, as well as providing one-off hire for birthday parties and other community celebrations.
BERA meets on a regular basis to review the ongoing management of the property, discuss new ideas for the hall’s use, obtain feedback from its members and explore avenues to garner community feedback on the property, as well as holding Annual General Meetings.
BERA ensures that the hall and its grounds are maintained by organising cleaning of the building and external spaces, health and safety, security, fire safety, arranging repairs as and when necessary, developing plans for future improvements, arranging the purchase of supplies, equipment and furniture as and when required, ensuring the payment of bills e.g. heating, electricity etc. as well as the management of its accounts by the treasurer. BERA is also responsible for ensuring that the relevant insurances are in place to protect both the property and its users.
To conclude, BERA strives to facilitate the ongoing development and management of an active and thriving community-accessible building as the focal point of a long-established urban residential area.
If successful in this campaign, the funds will be used to purchase much-needed chairs and storage trolleys to replace old and damaged furniture, which will be of huge benefit for the useability of the hall.
