If you can imagine it, you can crowdfund it. Westhive, bringing dreams to life.

West Oxfordshire District Council in partnership with community fundraising platform Spacehive launch an exciting opportunity to empower local people to fundraise projects to develop more inclusive, thriving and self-sufficient communities in West Oxfordshire.

The Westhive crowdfunding programme will enable residents and groups to collaborate and deliver locally-led projects that are genuinely supported by local community networks, businesses and West Oxfordshire District Council.

West Oxfordshire District Council has a fund of £120,000 and are looking to invest in projects that will support a number of the Council’s outcomes aligned to community resilience, the environment, ecology and climate change.

Westhive is about everyone, so at least  £20,000 of the pledge pot will be allocated to the funding of projects aimed at or brought forward by young people, so that they have the chance to take the driver’s seat and make the changes they want to see.

Westhive crowdfund will support both capital and revenue funded projects, vastly increasing its scope and reach. The Council is committed to pledge and support innovative and impactful projects, allowing residents to influence and shape their communities.

The Spring 2024 round is open with a project workshop being held on the 28th of February, 12pm- 1pm - Register for free here

The deadline of the current round is the 1st May. This means projects must be fully costed and permissions secured by this date.

SUWCC COVID-19 Defibrillator Appeal
SUWCC COVID-19 Defibrillator Appeal joined Westhive2 weeks ago

While COVID-19 has put pressure on our club finances, we have the opportunity in partnership with the Cricket Club Charity and the ECB to install a defibrillator for emergency use by club members, visitors and members of the public using the Wychwood Wild Garden. To do this we need to raise about £1,000. A cardiac arrest can be triggered by many factors and this can be fatal if treatment is not commenced within five minutes of the collapse of the patient. Due to our rural location, professional help may not arrive within this very short timescale, but there is a potential solution by using the portable defibrillator - which gives an electric shock to ‘reboot’ the heart - whilst awaiting professional help. The wall mounted cabinet is the latest design which automatically monitors and remotely reports the readiness of the unit for use while also recording its usage. We all hope that this piece of equipment never needs to be used, but there is ample evidence that it saves lives.

Let's Roll! Wheelchair Dancing for All
Let's Roll! Wheelchair Dancing for All joined Westhive2 weeks ago

West Oxfordshire Wheelchair Dance (WOWD) believe everyone should have the opportunity to dance. There are 1.2 million wheelchair users in the UK. In the government Leisure National Disability Strategy, it states “Disability is one of the main barriers people give for not attending art and cultural events, and disabled people are nearly twice as likely to be physically inactive”. WOWD strives to provide specialist dance classes for all wheelchair users and people with various degrees of ability. Dance has been proven to help improve the physical and mental health of those who take part. WOWD also provides a space for disabled and chronically ill people to socialise and connect with others who can understand their struggles. It offers 1 to 1 support tailored to each individual. We strongly believe that everyone should be able to find joy through dance no matter their ability and aim to provide the facilities so that our community can.

The cricket club has lost a lot of income as a result of Corona Virus, we haven’t been able to fundraise since March and the truncated season has meant we haven’t been able to train or play many matches as we’d planned. The lost income means we can’t invest as much into our pitch, facilities and equipment - which impacts upon the development of our young players.

Our club continues to pay out on certain expenses but with no income from membership, match fees or bar revenue. We will raise money to help out the club financially to meet these expenses. If we raise £100 then the ECB will match this. This initiative was originally set up to help set up All Stars junior cricket. It has since been opened up to all cricket clubs in during the Covid 19 crisis.
