Meadows + clean ups on The Regents Canal

Through this funding, we hope to maintain the improvements we have made by continuing to run volunteer events and involve even more local residents in our activities, especially young people

Sorry this project was unsuccessful, we did not reach our fundraising goal.

The idea

There is clearly a need for the work we do. Our part of London is rapidly changing. There are many interests to consider when thinking about how to care for our waterways and green spaces in ways that maximise benefits for all. We believe a priority should be that, where possible, waterways are protected and enhanced over the long-term. The fact that London boroughs are increasingly relying on volunteers to improve and maintain shared spaces also tells us that our work is essential. We are planning to continue our clean ups and also plant more wildflowers and bulbs this year to our meadow areas.

What we'll deliver

  • Keep the lower Regents canal clean
  • Plant hundreds of bulbs along the canal
  • Plant more wildflowers in our meadows

Why it's a great idea

In addition to ecological and aesthetic benefits of our work, we have captured the interest of many people in the community and inspired them to get involved. We've gone from 7 volunteers at our very first litter pick to over 400 people who follow our activities and volunteer with us regularly. This project is needed because people are sending us the message that they care about their community and when they see action being taken to make it better, they want to be involved.

Steps to get it done

  • Completing the wildflower meadows

We are planning events with local schools to educate the children about the canal and surrounding green spaces with the hope they learn and appreciate the canal and take an interest in keeping it clean for all to use.
