The idea
Christmas Lights (and the 30ft Norway spruce) in Broad Walk, Harvey Centre Approach, East Gate And Market Square have, over the years been managed and paid for from contributions from members of the Partnership.
Throughout the tough economic climate the Partnership managed to continue to utilise these contributions to ensure the town centre had its Christmas Lights, however this year the ability to contribute has been tough and members investment has been used in more long-term town centre projects.
Christmas Lights in these areas are in jeopardy, Harlow Council has committed funding to the lights and now the Partnership would ask the shops and businesses in Harlow to help, whose contributions will be invaluable to making the festive period in Harlow Town Centre.
Contributions do not just have to be from town centre shops or businesses, the Partnership would welcome and contributions from everyone whose is happy to help light up the town centre.
What we'll deliver
- Hire and install seasonal lighting in Harvey Centre Approach
- Hire and install seasonal lighting on lamp posts in Broad Walk
- However, if we go beyond out target the Partnership can do much more.
- Purchase and light up a 30ft Norway Spruce, situated in Broad Walk
- Light up trees in East Gate/Market Square
Why it's a great idea
Christmas lighting in Harlow Town Centre has been a feature for almost thirty years, enjoyed by the community and many generations over that time.
As a relatively small New Town the town centre has been at the heart of Harlow’s community, being the central location both retail and community activities. Christmas lighting has historically been a community event, for residents, businesses and visitors to come together and enjoy seasonal lighting and a 30ft Christmas tree that can only be seeing within this type of environment.
Ensuring that residents, visitors and business expectations are met, this will provide confidence and assurance that the town centre is still a competitive retail environment, meeting the expectations of a sub-regional shopping centre.
Steps to get it done
- Raising the necessary funds to work with lighting contractors to install the seasonal lighting.
For many retailers and businesses, no Christmas lights within the town centre is something that they would not want contemplate and could adversely affect retail sales and future investment opportunities of both existing and new business tenants.
