The idea
Derby Mountain Rescue Team has served the community around Derbyshire as a key part of the emergency services for 50 years. We are a completely voluntary service, working alongside the three main services, often in difficult and hazardous situations, supporting them by searching for missing or vulnerable people, helping people who are injured in remote or rural areas, supporting doctors & nurses in extreme weather & major incidents and carrying out evacuations and search & rescues during floods.
In order to provide this service and maintain our skills, we need to train. Our current vehicle garage, which we rent, is not able to support our training or meeting needs. An HQ, where we can do both, will enable us to be more efficient and provide us with an operational base and home.
The site in Markeaton, which we have planning permission to build a base on, will enable us to continue to serve and help people in remote & rural places. Now we need to purchase the land so we can move forward.

Why it's a great idea
Once we have bought the land, we can start the process of fundraising and the building of our new HQ. Before we can do anything else on the project we need to own the land. We have come to an agreement with the current landowner & the completion date for the purchase is the 1st December.
Once we own the land, we can start the next stage of the project working towards having an HQ from where we can train and manage the day to day running of the team, enabling us to be more efficient and providing the team with a base and a home.
Our new HQ has been designed not only to give us the ideal environment for training, equipment maintenance and storage, but also, with the future in mind, this new building makes use of the latest environmental energy saving and generation technologies, ensuring that the running costs are as low as possible and that the sustainability of the building is as high as possible. This will provide the team with an affordable & sustainable home for many years to come.
