We want to transform a local run-down playground into a vibrant community resource, investing in exciting new play equipment that will allow children of all ages and abilities to play together safely.
This campaign is the first step in our journey to raise £70k to buy & install an amazing new playground. The £5k will act as match funding for when we apply to national funders in 2019. Or, depending on how fundraising goes, pledges will go towards smaller park improvements & maintenance. We will keep you updated. Kings Meadow in Bromley serves a diverse community of over 15,000 people, but it has almost no facilities - just a small, run-down playground with limited equipment that caters only for very young children. It has little for older children and nothing at all for children with disabilities. Bromley Council maintains the equipment, and provides support to our Friends group while we raise money for much-needed improvements. Over the past year, we've worked hard to make small improvements to the park. But to affect real change we need to transform the playground, installing new play equipment that will allow children of all ages and abilities to play safely together.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Playgrounds are an essential part of childhood; they help in the fight against obesity; help to protect children against mental illness and social isolation; and, by providing a focal point for the community, they help to make neighbourhoods safer for everyone. And they're fun! Kings Meadow is a valuable community space, but it's tired and run-down and is far from the vibrant hub we know it could be. Having consulted widely among park users, there's a broad consensus across the community that key to transforming the park is developing the playground. We want to replace the old, limited equipment with exciting new pieces that appeal to children of all ages and abilities, giving them for the first time a safe space in which can play together. And we want to introduce well-planned seating that will encourage people to spend time in the park, getting to know their neighbours.
Steps to get it done:
All of this costs money: £70k to be precise. While we hope that most of this will come from grants, before we can even apply for some of these we need ''match funding' - a proportion of the award that we're seeking. That's where you come in... Please pledge what you can, just £2 will go a long way!
