The idea
Building on the success of the first edition of Kensington & Chelsea Art Weekend in 2018, we are now fundraising to develop a programme of public art and cultural events for the second edition of KCAW in the Summer of 2019.
KCAW2018 brought together over 70 events at 61 venues across the borough. From Chelsea to South Kensington, to North Kensington, independent galleries, pop-ups, local businesses and key cultural institutions participated in KCAW.
It is our aim for the 2019 edition to be brighter, bigger, better and more diverse, and we can only do this with your support. Subject to necessary fundraising, for our second year we want to deliver an extraordinary array of free and accessible Headline Projects including Art Bus Tours, public art installations, street art, Street Jams, Local Heroes awards, lecture series, community projects, workshops for children and young people, and more… It is a bold and ambitious project but with your help, we will be able to make it happen!
What we'll deliver
- Public Art Installations by local artists in key locations across the Borough
- Art Bus Tour linking Portobello to Kings Road, to High Street Kensington to Chelsea
- Specially Designed Street Jam with themed food, drinks, music and art
- Lates Gallery Trail & Walking Tours
- Awards Event: Unsung Heroes, Youth Division Prize, Venue Awards
- Talks Series: free talks and lectures by leading experts
- Workshops: leading up to KCAW throughout the year, at local venues

Why it's a great idea
KCAW is free and open to all. We welcome all cultural entities to feature in the weekend for free: galleries, pop-ups, food & beverage establishments, performance spaces, public art and artist studios.
In the first edition, KCAW partnered with Artsy to support smaller galleries to reach a global audience. We hope to repeat this again. The inaugural edition proved to be a huge success and our aim is to secure KCAW's place in London’s annual calendar as well as further afield with the help of our partners.
Our objective for 2019 is simple: more visibility to all that Kensington & Chelsea has to offer, connecting neighbourhoods and communities through celebration of arts and culture, highlighting the borough’s diversity and vibrancy. By making a collective effort we can reengage with our neighbours, using art as a platform for conversation, empowerment, inclusion and improvement.
Steps to get it done
- Workshops with local community and participating venues to develop programme

- Open Doors: 100+ Participants, up by 40% from first edition
- Planning: Secure locations and permits for Headline Projects
- Design and production of maps, guide, invitations and banners
- Develop and launch new website & Participant On-Line Member Area
- Public Vote: Launch Unsung Heroes and Love Kensington & Chelsea Street Art
- Events and Talks: set themes and invite speakers and performers, secure venues
