The idea

Do you enjoy the performing arts? Do you have a love for the performing arts? Would you like to have a safe space to tap into your creative juices/creativity? Incubate community projects are working in unison with Abeille Theatre and would like to share our love for the performing arts by offering a selection of workshops for you to choose from to attend. Currently these will be run virtually, with potential for them to be run in person.

If you have a love for dance and movement, then the dance workshop is for you. If you have a love for expressing yourself through song and voice, then community singing is the workshop for you. Finally, if you have a love for expressing yourself through written word, then our workshop titled 'The Written Word - Exploring Storytelling Through Writing' is the workshop for you!
Additionally, it is important to note that these sessions are completely free to attend!

What we'll deliver

  • Community Singing Classes
  • Dance & Movement Classes
  • The Written Word - Exploring Storytelling Through Writing

Why it's a great idea

The provision of these workshops aims to bring about the following benefits:
Access to community singing, dance and movement, devising and the exploration of story telling through writing.
These workshops will also provide a number of transferable skills such as written and verbal communication, personal motivation and leadership which will be used in everyday situations and their futures.
Providing an outlet where people can express themselves through these workshops.
Encouraging participants to explore their creativity.
Developing and nurturing of talent within the performing arts.
Through allowing members of the community to meet once a week, this will add to the sense of togetherness amongst the young people.
Providing a forum and space that enables networking opportunities for participants.
Helping to mitigate social isolation of vulnerable residents, particularly post Covid-19, where the sense of loneliness has been particularly prevalent.

Steps to get it done

  • Prepare content for the proposed performing arts workshops.
  • Bring on board specialists for certain areas within the workshops (if needed).
  • Raise awareness through an array of marketing methods on the provision of these workshops, e.g. social media & posters.
  • Record the number of people (& demographics) of those interested in attending each session.
  • Workshop planning, in order to adjust sessions accordingly for different ages and ability levels
  • Deliver the workshops.
  • Exhibition period - whereby workshop participants will be given the time and space to showcase their work.
  • Evaluation & Reflection - using an array of methods (attendance levels, feedback forms and attendee testimonials).
  • Secure further funding to continue to provide these workshops to members of the community

Everyone involved with the running of this project is a product of the performing arts and we've witnessed first hand the all round benefits (in everyday life).

After doing some research and profiling the nearby communities to us, we have found that the culture and arts sector is an area in which we can help Havering to achieve their goal of having community cohesion. Performing Arts not only develops skills within the arts, but can produce transferrable skills which can then help people succeed in life.

These workshops will be offered as virtual, with the potential for them to become 'in person', should the following happening:
- Covid-19 restrictions have been eased.
- Provisional overfunding targets met in order to cover costs such as (Venue Hire, Covid related products, travel and additional tutor fees).
