The idea
This secure unit, located on the outskirts of Hull, has fantastic, but underused out door space.
We are working with the patients and staff to provide 3 allotments.
The patients would dig out the allotments, plant seeds and small plants to grow vegetables to be used in their canteen.
The idea is that the project would be self sufficient and would be used for several outcomes - to educate the patients in 'fork to food' and to give therapeutic exercise to those patients who would not otherwise get it.
What we'll deliver
- Provide tools and equipment, including spades, hoes and wheelbarrows
- Provide topsoil for the allotments
- Purchase the plants and seeds needed to fill the 3 allotments.
Why it's a great idea
Currently the patients do not have usable out side space, and this is the perfect space to engage them in something practical.
It will provide service users with very specific needs, physical exercise and an outlet for their energies.
Steps to get it done
- Cutting turf is the first step when we have the funding for the topsoil
- Project plan in place to monitor progress
