The idea
Side extension of the clubhouse using dead space that is never used. The project would involve moving the current cellar into the new extension. We would then use the current cellar space as a kitchen. This would create more space in the club house for the many community events we hold each year.
Our current junior section ranges from age 4-11. We also have a youth team, 3 senior teams and both a pool and darts team. As well as this we have approximately 200 members.
A bigger and better club house means we can facilitate more players, mainly in our junior sections as well as creating a girls team and also a women's team.
Having recently suffered a burglary costing approximately £1000 we cannot fund this ourselves.
What we'll deliver
- Extension
- New cellar
- Install a new kitchen
Why it's a great idea
At present we have approx 140 children playing for our junior section and 60 adults in our senior section. When we hold function the club is just too small. For example we had to hold 5 Christmas parties, which resulted in paying for entertainment etc 5 times. Whereas with more space this could be condensed.
Every week after a football match we have to pay for food to be delivered as there is just no space. With our own kitchen these costs could be cut dramatically which would be a great benefit to the club.
Our future plans are to hold more events to involve more and more of the community. We don't want to just be a football club, we want to host youth clubs, social clubs, classes to include all ages, genders and hobbies.
Last year we held a very successful band day where over 300 people came. However, stocking for this was a nightmare due to our current cellar space. This was the same on Fireworks night when over 500 people came so stock was held in the changing rooms.
Steps to get it done
- Get plans from architect
- Build new extension
- Move current cellar to new extension
- Convert current cellar to a new kitchen
Participating in sport offers so many benefits, no matter what your age or background, including:
*HEALTH - Playing team sports is proven to help with social and mental wellbeing while providing a powerful way to build fitness and reduce stress;
*COLLABORATION - Team sports means the focus is not on the individual and instead on the collaborative effort of the whole group, where everyone's hard work matters;
*SOCIAL SKILLS - developed through exploring team dynamics of co-operation and interaction, while also building on communication and social skills
*FRIENDSHIP - the team mates you meet on the pitch often become friends for life who you socialise with outside of sport, reducing isolation and potential vulnerabilities.
Alongside all that, we'll continue creating a great community that is a becoming a core part of Morriston
