Connecting people, ideas, and support from the crowd to make Leicester an even better place!
Happy Larry's has been set up specifically to provide a safe and friendly environment where people from less than 'ordinary' backgrounds are given an opportunity to try something new, and (hopefully) give them a new perspective on life. My name is Chris Shaw, and I am a graphic designer and garment decorator with 20yrs experience. My intention is to set up a small retail store and training centre on the edge of Leicester, where we will print various kinds of apparel in a variety of ways, from Cad Cut Vinyl Print, to Full Colour Digital Print, for a variety of customers from individuals, clubs, teams, business' and charities. My intention is to become a self funding enterprise for the guidance and training of people who have survived potentially life threatening circumstances, who have found themselves in desperate need of a safe place to be, where they can learn a new and useful skill and a new approach with an open mind.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Making T Shirts is FUN!, but, just like everything worthwhile, there's more to it than you think! I want to give individuals an opportunity they wouldn't normally get in the print industry without experience or qualifications. An opportunity to get involved, and to learn through experience. I will show them the basic principles of design, and how to prepare and produce, digital, print ready artwork for garment decoration and associated products. They will then learn how to set up and operate all the equipment associated with the various kinds of print processes, and teach them how to organise their work flow (which in turn will help organise their thought processes). I will also provide opportunities for them to create their own artwork, using Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as traditional drawing skills (if they're up for it!), and their designs will then be made available for sale both in the shop and on our website, where each 'designer' will receive (on going) commission.
Steps to get it done:
I will provide full 'hands on' experiences for each individual, with a view to providing either full or part time employment (as the project develops or with external employers) or recommendation, guidance and encouragement for full or part time study in any art based, graphics or printing course (or related vocational courses). If you would like to know more about me, and my reasons for doing this, please read my personal profile, or contact me via the email available on this page, thanks :) I would like to say a very big thank you to anyone who is considering backing this project, without you, it simply won't happen. Apart from getting a warm feeling inside in return for your pledge, I can (if people think it's appropriate), offer various incentives by way of printed garments etc, in return for your backing. Please feel free to email me for more details if required. Thanks again to you and everyone else just for reading this far.....you're a star! Take care you lot! Chris :)
