The idea
Depending on funding, we’d like to increase the size of the Pavilion by approximately 351 sq.m. This will allow us to bring in a cafe, relocate and enlarge the bar, open the space for daily visitors, encourage co-working and business meetings, and so much more.
The new building will also ensure that the pre-school has its own permanent space, not one that is having to be packed away often to allow for external bookers. We will add in multiple kitchen spaces to ensure the pre-school has their own, the hall hirers have access to one, and then there will be a third for the cafe.
Further flexible space is included within the plan to give maximum opportunities for recreational and social use. This is the specific area of the project that we have focussed on here regarding funding. The partitioning will enable the flexibility in user space and enhance the capability of the building.
What we'll deliver
- Increase the size of the Pavilion by 351 sqm
- Pavilion cafe
- Relocate and enlarge the bar
- Create a co working space
- Build a permanent space for the pre-school
- Add two new kitchens
- Relocate the changing rooms
- Add more parking spaces
- Add EV parking spaces
- Add gender neutral bathrooms
Why it's a great idea
Demand for booking the Pavilion is at an all-time high and currently, we’re having to turn locals away due to capacity. With a new and expanded space, we will be able to…
• Offer more flexible space for our growing community
• Broaden the activities currently on offer
• Offer more attractive, modern and eco-friendly facilities
• Offer facilities which are open to the public all year round without the need for booking e.g. toilets and cafe
• Welcome community leaders such as Thames Valley Police, Citizens Advice, NHS England, local councillors to host listening and learning sessions
• Increase the community spirit with a free library, food bank and IT classes as suggested by our residents
Steps to get it done
- Work to the existing building
- Rear hall infill
- Canopy build
- External works: drainage and car park
- External works: changing rooms
The village of Long Hanborough has been pivotal to the delivery of the West Oxfordshire Local Plan 2031, particularly in relation to the provision of affordable housing and economic growth. The focus on housing developments, specifically affordable housing has also meant that the demographics of the community have changed significantly. Hanborough now has a more diverse age range and increasingly, young families are moving to the village.
The 2021 census found the population of Hanborough to be 3,503 - a 34% increase in a decade. It also doesn’t take into consideration over 200 new builds completed after 2021. With this and the upcoming development of a further 150 houses, the population of Hanborough has increased drastically, while the facilities and amenities on offer have stayed static.
