The idea
St Paul's is in the heart of the Church Street area, opposite the Lisson Green Estate. Urban spaces such as ours lack greenery - yet green spaces help people connect with nature, provide valuable habitats, and absorb carbon dioxide.
Outside St Paul's is a poorly used paved area bounded by railings. We want this to become a community garden with plants and herbs, a real celebration of nature in the heart of urban London.
Funding we receive will go to creating a vision for the space, buying materials and establishing the planting.
We want members of the community to be involved in planting and maintaining the garden.
What we'll deliver
- Design and vision for the space
- Materials to create the garden
- Plants to get it growing
Why it's a great idea
A new green space will improve the environment of Rossmore Road, where the church is located.
It will attract greater biodiversity, hopefully birds, bees and butterflies.
Herbs can be harvested, and local people can connect with nature by enjoying it, and hopefully volunteering to keep it watered and well-maintained.
Steps to get it done
- May 2022 - design created, contractor employed
- July 2022 - materials onsite, creation in progress
- October 2022 - garden thriving!
