To reestablish the planters and add more seating surrounding the Chillingham Road Primary School, a busy community area that would benefit significantly from a bit of elbow grease and greenery!
We will reestablish and manage the planters and benches surrounding the Chillingham Road Primary School. The area was once maintained by the local council. But local funding issues meant that the green spaces were pared back. We, a community of parents and local citizens, would like to take simple measures to recreate the once green and vibrant space. The existing planters will be refreshed, reinstalled and managed by an active group of green-fingered locals. Two new benches will give parents and children a safe space during drop-off and pick-up. The community has already installed two benches which have been well received and much-used. We'll include a mounted noticeboard and Little Free Library if we meet our funding goals. Both for locals and parents to use.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Parents and kids will have a green and pleasant space to use during those busy social drop-offs and pickups. Many kids at the school have baby siblings who need feeding at random times, e.g. during pickup or drop-off - the benches will be a great place to sit and feed a baby. Tired parents, grandparents and kids make constant use of the existing benches. More are needed! The community want to see the return of the planters in the area. We're willing to chip in and help out! The planters and benches will have the added benefit of clearly marking where parking is allowed, making the space safer for the entire community. The school will be invited to join in with managing the planters. Doing a project on nitrogen-fixing crops? We'd love to work together to figure out what to plant together. Our project is in keeping with the school's work to encourage active travel and community spirit.
