The idea
The project involves building a modern community hall featuring a conference suite for local businesses and community groups; an IT centre to host workshops; and facilities for young people - from computer games to cheerleading classes.
We anticipate that the combined benefits of redeveloping the centre and using it to provide a springboard to jobs and learning opportunities will help reverse the cycle of deprivation in the area. It could bring about a real physical and community renaissance for Glyncoch.
What we'll deliver
- Build a new energy efficient community centre
- Landscape external areas
- Furnish community centre
- Decorate community centre
Why it's a great idea
The existing community centre is cramped and dilapidated, despite having undergone extensive maintenance over the years at substantial cost. As a result, the services it provides are being adversely affected.
We want to host a packed programme of daily activities in the new centre that includes a learning programme four days per week, enterprise workshops, nightly events for children and young people, luncheon clubs for older people; community fitness sessions, and social parties. Without the centre, Glyncoch will miss out on vital services and the essential community bonds they bring.
Steps to get it done
- Hire Encon Construction Ltd to build the centre.
- Move furniture from previous community centre into new one.
- With the help of volunteers from the nearby school, paint the inside of the centre.
There has been much talk about the redeveloping Glyncoch for years. The lack of progress has encouraged us to phase our plans over a longer time period. But this exciting project is something we could achieve really soon.
We've already raised 94% of our funding - now we need your help to get over the finishing line before our grants expire. If we can raise the money, the centre will be built and open for use by summer 2012! The vision of a new hub for the community is within touching distance and will be the catalyst for change that Glyncoch needs.
We greatly appreciate all the support given so far and thank you in anticipation of further support to ensure we reach our funding target.
Any unspent funds will be used to purchase sports equipment and to upgrade the hall flooring from vinyl to wood.
