A place where all the people of the Tyne region can collaborate on creative and innovative projects!
The funding we need isn’t chicken feed, but the positive impact it’ll have on the local community is priceless. Our farm is a brilliant and unique resource in the city centre and enriches the lives of so many. We’re hoping to secure £22,000 by the end of September so we can complete the work before winter comes around.
What we'll deliver:
Why it's a great idea:
Chickens are im-peck-able animals. Recent studies have shown what we’ve always known on the farm: chickens are smart, caring and complex creatures. The same goes for our ducks. Like us, they want the chance to live a happy and peaceful life. That’s why they’re counting on your donation. In June of this year, Ouseburn Farm lost several chickens and ducks in a suspected theft. And last year, 23 of our feathered friends were killed by foxes. We do everything we can to keep their area secure, but we urgently need investment to build a safer, more sustainable living space. We would love to develop a coop that allows us to provide interactive education activities for the community. From school groups to adults with learning difficulties and the general public, it's something everyone will benefit from.
Steps to get it done:
AMAZING FEATHERY FACTS: 1. Chickens love to play and will run, jump and even sunbathe given half a chance. 2. Only a few species of duck quack. Most make a variety of sounds including squeaks, grunts, chirps, whistles, brays and growls. 3. Chickens sometimes slurp grass like spaghetti. 4. Ducks never feel the cold in their feet. They have no nerves or blood vessels in them. 5. Chickens are the closest living relative to the Tyrannosaurus Rex. 6. Duck feathers are highly waterproof due to an intricate structure and a waxy coating.
