The idea
A programme of coaching and skill development for girls aged 8-12 delivered by qualified, volunteer cricket coaches indoors.
Sessions will be located indoors to develop skills learned by girls over the summer and harness the appeal of girls sport in Southport.
An 8 week programme of coaching will add additional skills with the view to being ready to enter a local girls cricket league in summer 2022.
The funding received will help pay for facility hire and the purchase of new equipment to support the girls in their training.
What we'll deliver
- 10 hours of Girls cricket coaching
- Sports hall hire for 10 hours
- Cricket equipment for girls team
Why it's a great idea
Since the world pandemic, children have been starved of physical activity as sport was suspended. In summer 2021, Fleetwood Hesketh Cricket Club launched a girls only coaching programme, initially intended for 10 girls. 22 girls registered and regularly took part in the programme.
This has been great for their physical and mental wellbeing, learning to work together as a team and learn new skills.
This winter programme would look to develop this further and provide the girls with specific winter training to keep improving mental and physical health at an age where girls start to drop out of sport.
Steps to get it done
- Set up winter training sessions specifically for girls
