The idea
Swansea Botanical Gardens are in dire need of new gates. Help us create a welcoming gateway that greets the community as they pass through into a beautiful landscape providing a tranquil haven just one mile from Swansea city centre. The bespoke wrought iron gates will be unique, the botanical themed design will highlight the entryway into the garden and will complement the much admired gates of the wildflower garden. They will be the initial threshold that welcomes and connects people with the world of plants beyond.
The gates will be individually designed and handcrafted in Wales by Eifion Thomas, the fifth generation of blacksmiths to work at the family forge in Dinas Cross, Pembrokeshire. They will be hot dipped galvanised to prevent corrosion and will be powder coated to the colour silver.
What we'll deliver
- Wrought iron entrance gates with botanical theme for entrance to the Botanical Gardens, Singleton Park.
Why it's a great idea
We want to improve the health and wellbeing of our local community and encourage people to engage in their natural environment. Parks and green spaces are proven to help people stay physically and mentally well; places where we can all move, breathe, run and play. They are an important tool to drive social cohesion, combat loneliness and build community spirit. Public use of parks is on the rise but pressure on public finances is making them much harder to manage, maintain and safeguard.
Steps to get it done
- Contact blacksmith to start the work
Two sets of wrought iron gates will be forged. The full height night-time gate will be locked at night and folded back during the day. The daytime gate will be wide enough for wheel chair access and used as an entrance for visitors.
