The idea

During the COVID-19 we have increased our output of food provision by 200% to assist people in crisis for food due to the current pandemic the world is facing. We are a front line key provision within the City of Sunderland and provide emergency food parcels to people in crisis Monday - Thursday and a takeaway meal during on a Friday. This is very different from our normal running where we provide a community cafe and a safe place for the collection of food parcels. All food parcels supplied are via a referral process and we are working closely with social workers, hospitals, schools, medical centres, probation, the local council crisis team and job centres.

What we'll deliver

  • Food parcels to people in a food crisis where they make a choice between purchasing energy or food
  • a packed lunch for people that normally come for a meal
  • hygiene packs for people in need

Why it's a great idea

The project during the COVID-19 pandemic will help us to continue and deliver emergency food provisions to people that are in need of food and without the financial means to purchase food. We also signpost people for additional services and support and refer people that will be able to support them during this difficult time.

Steps to get it done

  • help stop food hunger
  • give people emergency food parcels during the COVID-19 crisis
  • give people volunteering experience

Help people less fortunate, people in food poverty crisis, help prevent the crisis escalating
