The idea
This is 'Community Broadband' scheme. If between us we commit to fund a certain amount then BT Openreach will connect the cabinet and maintain the infrastructure with no ongoing cost to us.
If you offer to contribute then your money will ONLY be taken if enough is raised from everyone else to hit the total required. If we don't hit the target then your pre-authorisation is not used and no money will be taken from your account.
Our Broadband cabinet serves 116 households in the following 7 postcodes: KT8 9BP, KT8 9BW, KT8 9BU, KT8 9BW, KT8 9BN, KT8 9BD and KT8 0DG.
If we raise the money and you have broadband already your speed will increase when the cabinet is connected. If you don't have broadband yet then you will need to contract with a service provider to get the service.
What we'll deliver
- Get BT Openreach to connect faster broadband to our street cabinet
Why it's a great idea
Most of us want faster broadband. BT have offered to connect our part of the street if - between us - we raise about £5100 across the 116 households who would benefit. If everyone gets involved the the average amount needed from each household is £40. (I guess not everyone will get involved, so please pledge more if you are able to! I am pledging £598 myself to get things started)
IF we succeed then £4684 of the total collected will go to BT. The other £484 covers the cost of this website plus transaction fees for collecting the pledges and VAT.
Steps to get it done
- 1. Raise funding pledges
- 2. Achieve funding target and enter into contract with BT
- 3. Cabinet connected
