The idea
We will revitalise Chalice Media Studios on Cambridge Road to be the bas of operations for a vibrant, eco-friendly creative community hub. Our project will build on the success of The Boat Shed Creative Community Hub, driven by the community's needs and feedback. From this base of operations, we will offer a range of activities, including creative workshops, theatre productions, open mic nights, and sustainability-focused events. This space will support local artists, provide educational opportunities, and foster a sense of belonging among residents. By installing LED lighting and promoting sustainable practices, we will also contribute to reducing the community's carbon footprint. With strong support from local MPs, councillors, and community groups, this is an exciting leap forward for Ellesmere Port's cultural and environmental landscape.
What we'll deliver
- Renovate the Space: Transform the building with sustainable materials and eco-friendly installations.
- Install Eco-Friendly Systems: Implement LED lighting, energy-efficient heating, and solar panels.
- Set Up Creative Spaces and link with other groups to deliver workshops, sessions & community events.
- Launch Programs: Offer regular creative workshops, community events, and youth programs.
- Engage the Community: Foster local talent through cultural events and provide educational opportunities.
Why it's a great idea
The adaptations to this unit will create an eco-friendly community space that benefits local residents, young people, artists, older people, young mums and families, and community groups by offering creative workshops, theatre productions, social events.
The regeneration will foster community engagement, enhance opportunities for social inclusion, and support skills development, boosting personal growth and future employment.
The creative hub will address challenges, including economic hardship and isolation (backed by research showing community hubs improve mental well-being, social cohesion, and local economies).
By integrating sustainable practices, the creative hub and studio will also promote environmental awareness.
This project should appeal to local residents, environmentalists, and businesses, offering broad community benefits and targeted support for specific groups, making it a much-needed and welcome addition to Ellesmere Port.

Our idea will offer thriving opportunities and breathe life into an overlooked area of Ellesmere Port by creating a central space that is accessible to all community members, regardless of age, ability, or background. It will serve as base of operations for further community engagement and for local artists to showcase their talents; for residents to engage in enriching cultural activities.
By focusing on sustainability, we will become educators of eco-friendly practices while upholding them. The project has garnered strong support from local stakeholders, including MPs, councillors, and community groups, highlighting its importance and relevance. Additionally, the creative hub will build on the proven success of the Boat Shed Creative Community Hub, ensuring that it continues to meet the evolving needs of the community.
