The idea
This project will bring an old building to life providing a range of opportunities to adults with learning disabilities.
Adding an additional building to Discover U centred around life skills will increase the amount of support we are able to offer. We will be able to provide a reception room onto the high street to help support and engage with the local community and also provide work experience opportunities. A living room, kitchen and bedroom space centred around life skills, mental health and social skills. A work room for daily activities and group sessions plus garden space for horticultural activities.
What we'll deliver

Why it's a great idea
Bringing a high street building back into use will have a positive impact for the local community. It will increase footfall in the area and connect people of different backgrounds together.
It will enable us to increase the amount of support available in the area to people with learning disabilities at a time that services are becoming more and more stretched.
We will also be able to increase the range of services we provide adding development in:

• Money management skills
• Environmental impact and horticultural skills
• Emergency preparedness and basic first aid
• Understanding dangers in the home
• Moving towards independent living
• Understand the importance of hygiene
• Space for mental health wellness
• Planning as well as life skills around main living areas

• Meal planning, cooking and nutrition
• Hygiene and food safety
• Customer Service and employment skills
